Diabetes Coalition
Enhancing knowledge of diabetes
The diabetes coalition meets 3-4 times per year to plan activities and provide education credits to its members, with the goal of enhancing knowledge of diabetes education, research and best practices.
Our Mission: To provide comprehensive diabetes education, medical care, research and public advocacy for the citizens of southeastern Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ and West Virginia. Our goal is to reduce the cost, premature death and personal suffering that often result from the long-term complications of diabetes mellitus.
History: Established by the Diabetes/Endocrine Center and affiliated faculty from Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ University, the coalition is a training and continuing education resource for diabetes educators in the region. The coalition includes 11 regional ADA-recognized diabetes education programs and their diabetes educators, dietitians, faculty from various schools and departments at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ University, regional school health nurses and public health officials and advocates. Many members of the coalition, including Diabetes Center-affiliated staff and faculty, participate in the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Diabetes Alliance, a component of the statewide Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Department of Health’s Diabetes Prevention and Control Program.
