  1. Purpose

    This policy provides for emergency medical care, including transportation and supportive first aid at the scene, for Athens Campus Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ University students, employees, and visitors, as needed.

  2. Plan

    Trained Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ University employees may provide supportive first aid administered at the scene of an emergency, and the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ University Police Department may also provide transportation for minor medical emergencies.

    Serious medical emergencies will be handled by Southeast Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Emergency Medical Services (SEOEMS) or another Athens County designated agency, including transportation to medical facilities.

    The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ University Police Department does not operate an ambulance that is certified in accordance with Chapters 4765 and 4766 of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Revised Code. Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ University does not claim that any Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ University staff member may perform those emergency medical care services restricted by Chapter 4765 of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Revised Code.

  3. Policies and Procedures

    1. Reporting a Medical Emergency

      1. Telephone calls regarding a minor medical emergency should be placed to the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ University Police Department, 593-1911.

      2. Telephone calls regarding a serious medical emergency on or adjacent to the Athens campus should be placed to 911.

    2. Vehicle Equipment and Personnel Training

      1. Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ University Police Department patrol automobiles shall be equipped with a full standard first aid kit and an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Patrol bicycles shall be equipped with a compact first aid kit. Officers shall be trained in basic first aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with training deemed appropriate for law enforcement officers in the State of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ.

      2. Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ University will depend upon SEOEMS or another Athens County designated agency to provide a suitably equipped ambulance and properly trained and certified emergency medical technicians.
