Joe transferred to Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ University because of his interest in environmental engineering in southeast Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ. Joe attended post-secondary through his high school and received credit through AP course offerings. Joe is a two-time recipient of the Neil D. Thomas Civil Engineering Endowed Scholarship, the ADS Civil Engineering Scholarship, and the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ College Opportunity Grant.

Joe is a Robe Scholar, president of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) OU student chapter, and captain of the environmental engineering team that competes against other engineering schools in the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Valley Conference. Joe is also president of Bobcats Building a Better World. Joe works as an undergraduate research assistant studying the treatment of acid mine drainage from a stream near campus and using it to create paint pigment.
