Kayla Heacock

Biography
Kayla Heacock is an Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Mathematics Department and a doctoral student in Mathematics Education in The Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ University. She has a Master of Science in Mathematics from Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ University and a Bachelor of Science in Theoretical Mathematics from The Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ State University. In 2021, Kayla was awarded the College of Arts & Sciences Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award for her work in undergraduate calculus at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ University. Currently, Kayla teaches mathematics courses for education majors and coordinates Math 1101/1102. Her research has focused on inquiry-based learning in undergraduate calculus and supporting early career secondary mathematics teachers’ questioning strategies to promote student generalizing. Kayla’s dissertation focuses on supporting and preparing graduate mathematics teaching assistants who teach introductory mathematics courses.
